A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:48 scale from the British brand Xtradecal. It is devoted to the North American P-51D Mustang fighter in the version with a bubble canopy, specifically to machines in the colors of foreign users outside the United States. This is the first part of a series; the companion part works up further users. The sheet is an accessory for a finished model, not a kit.
The P-51D was the most widespread production version of the Mustang. Its recognition feature is the bubble canopy with a lowered fuselage spine, which markedly improved the view to the rear. After the Second World War the machines entered the inventories of a number of other states and served in them well into the 1950s, often with markings and colors different from the original American aircraft.
With a sheet of this kind it pays to give attention to trimming the carrier film. The decals are cut with a sharp scalpel or with scissors as close to the printed artwork as possible, so that no wide transparent border is left around the marking once it is stuck down, which would show as a glossy outline after matting. On round markings the cut follows the arc; on lettering it goes straight, close above the letters. The cut-out piece is soaked and left to rest on a paper towel until the membrane moves freely on the backing.
This is a standalone decal sheet. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
