Stores are among the elements that can markedly change a model, and at the same time among those where injection-molded plastic runs into its limits. A cast rendition manages thinner sections and finer surface detail. This item is aimed at the reconnaissance form of the Tiger II and behind it stands Aires, an established supplier of accessories for aircraft modeling.
The Tiger II grew out of the family of light supersonic machines designed so that smaller air forces could afford them too. A pair of small engines, simple maintenance and a low purchase price made it one of the most widespread combat aircraft of its class. The reconnaissance form received a reworked nose with room for sensor equipment, so the profile of the front section changed noticeably. Despite its reconnaissance focus the machine kept the ability to carry stores under the wing and the fuselage, and so could defend itself if need be. The type served for decades with a number of users around the world.
Symmetry is the most important thing – the pylons on both wing halves have to hold the same angle, or the model will look twisted. It helps to pre-drill small holes and use a short wire pin, which fixes the position and strengthens the joint. Choose the paint to match the overall scheme of the machine; stores were often a different color and carried their own stenciling. Keep the weathering restrained.
The item serves to fill out a model already bought and does not amount to a complete build.
