The North American P-51 Mustang was an American single-seat, single-engine fighter of all-metal construction with a laminar-flow wing profile. In the versions with the Packard Merlin engine it gained high-altitude performance and the range that allowed it to escort bomber formations deep over the continent. In June 1944 the aircraft of Allied units received pronounced black and white stripes on the wings and fuselage over the invasion area, which were meant to make rapid recognition in flight easier. It is exactly this marking that gives the Mustangs of that time their characteristic look and it is the main visual theme of the whole box.
Start with the cockpit and its painting, because access to it is limited once the fuselage is closed. Separate the parts with nippers, sand the sprue gate marks smooth and glue the joints with liquid cement for plastic, which runs into the seam by capillary action. Apply a surfacer before painting so that small irregularities show up. A glossy metallic surface is built up with an airbrush in layers on a smooth base and it tolerates very little additional sanding. The invasion stripes come out better masked and sprayed than as a decal. Run a gloss coat over the area before the decals, and once it has dried unify the surface with a matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the look you want.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
