A small resin set in 1:48 scale with an oxygen tank is one of those details on a model that are easily overlooked until they are there. The casting replaces a simplified shape from the base kit or fills out a place where the kit has no part at all. It is not a model of an aircraft or part of one but an accessory to be fitted into an interior, into a technical compartment or into a scene beside a model.
Oxygen systems were ordinary equipment on aircraft that operated at greater altitudes. Pressure tanks were placed in the cockpit, behind the pilot's seat or in separate technical compartments, from which piping led to the crew's breathing masks. On a model it is one of those elements that give an open interior or a servicing scene credibility, because it fills an otherwise empty space and suggests that the machine really was in service.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the mating surface with abrasive paper; protect your airways when sanding resin. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary modeling cement for plastic is not enough. Begin painting with a filler primer, then apply the base shade and pull the detail out with a dark wash, which will pick out the bands, the valve and the mounting. Deal with lettering and markings with small decals, but only if you know what they looked like on the machine in question.
