A resin detail part, not an airplane kit. A finely cast corrected air intake in resin that replaces the inaccurate plastic part from the base kit and refines the shape of the intake on the engine nacelles of the American P-38 Lightning fighter in 1:48 scale.

The real subject and what the part is for

The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter of the Second World War with a characteristic twin-boom layout and Allison engines with turbochargers. It served as a fighter, a bomber escort and a photo-reconnaissance machine in the Pacific and in Europe. The air intakes for the intercooler and the turbocharger are conspicuous on the nacelles and tend to be simplified in plastic; a more accurate casting puts their shape right.

Usage tips

• Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue
• Cut off the casting blocks and clean up the surfaces with respiratory protection
• Bond them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); plastic cement does not hold on resin
• The mouth of the intake can be carefully opened up with a drill so that it reads as open
