P-39Q/N Airacobra interior 3D decal (1:48, Quinta Studio)

A relief, color-printed transfer for the cockpit, not an aircraft model. It replaces painting and photo-etched parts - the instrument panel, side consoles, seat and seat belts are printed with raised, three-dimensional detail and with colors straight from the factory. The set is shaped for the P-39Q/N Airacobra plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard.

The real subject

The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American fighter of the Second World War with an unusual layout: the Allison engine sat behind the pilot in the middle of the fuselage and drove the propeller through a shaft, so that a heavy cannon could be carried in the propeller axis. The aircraft had nose gear and car-style doors into the cockpit. It was used on a large scale by the Soviet Air Force under Lend-Lease deliveries. The N and Q versions were among the late, most widespread variants.

Application

• First sand the corresponding plastic cockpit parts smooth - the 3D decal is applied directly onto them.
• Separate the part from the backing paper with tweezers (with some sets a brief dip helps) and lay it in place. Do not use a decal softener or a fixer here - they would attack the printed resin.
• Press it down gently so that the relief beds into the surface; work calmly, the parts are tiny.
• The procedure is better suited to advanced builders - the relief must not be deformed.
