Photo-etched sliding canopy rails for the Curtiss P-40 M and N model in 1:48 scale from Brengun. A small accessory to an Eduard or Mauve kit you have already bought, not a model of its own.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small photo-etched set dealing with one particular detail of a Curtiss P-40 model in the M and N versions: the rails along which the sliding section of the cockpit canopy moves. On the real aircraft these are narrow sheet metal sections along the rear part of the cockpit, which injected plastic can suggest only as shallow relief or as a thick raised line.
It makes sense mainly when you are building a model with the canopy slid back. An open cockpit reveals exactly the place where the rails are, and a thin metal part with sharp edges looks more convincing there than a plastic outline. With the cockpit closed the effect is small and the accessory is better saved for another model. The set is cut for the Eduard or Mauve kit; with another kit of the same aircraft, reckon on measuring and shortening it.
The rails are long and narrow, so they are easily twisted. Cut them out only at the moment you are really going to glue them, and carry them with a moistened brush or tweezers with flat jaws. Before gluing, sand the place on the model smooth so that the part lies along its whole length. It is bonded with super glue in spots; gel suits it better than the thin version, because it does not run into the cockpit. Apply the paint with a brush after gluing, so that the edges are covered and the rail blends visually into its surroundings.
The accessory set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
