An arrangement of cockpit accessories for the Curtiss P-40N-25 Warhawk in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
Curtiss took its aging fighter through to the N version by taking off it whatever could come off. Two machine guns went, armor was cut back, aluminum radiators replaced the heavier brass ones and the rear glazing was widened so that the pilot could see behind him. The N-25 production blocks also received a reworked fuel system. They flew mainly in Burma, over New Guinea and in the colors of Chinese and Australian squadrons.
The package brings several elements of the cockpit together in one whole. The seat, the side panels and the instrument face come finished in a form that painting by hand could hardly match, and fine metal details go with them. Under an open cockpit canopy the difference shows at once.
It is worth leaving the cockpit canopy slid back. All the work put into the interior is otherwise visible only through the glazing and a good part of the effort is lost. An open space also allows a helmet or a map to be placed inside and the resulting scene brought to life.
The color treatment of the cockpits of American fighters of this period tends to be a source of disputes. The dark green shade of the inner surfaces differed with the factory and the date of manufacture, so it pays to compare photographs of the period of the particular machine the modeler has chosen.
