Photo-etched steel seatbelts for the cockpit of a model of the Curtiss P-40N fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale. Steel keeps its shape after bending, so the belts come across naturally.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Curtiss P-40 was an American fighter aircraft of the Second World War which served on most theaters and in many Allied air forces. The N version is among its late renditions. The seatbelts in the cockpit are an element which on a finished model with an open canopy catches the eye first: real belts hang loosely over the seat and have metal buckles, whereas belts of plastic tend to be thick and flat.
The set brings seatbelts of photo-etched steel in 1:48 scale. Steel photo-etch is stiffer than a softer metal and keeps its shape after bending, so the sag of a belt over the edge of a seat can be imitated without the element straightening out again. The extent of the sheet and the breakdown of the individual parts are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
Cut the parts out with a sharp blade on a firm support, not with scissors, which would bend the photo-etch. Bend them with tweezers in small steps, so that a smooth curve arises and not a sharp crease. Glue with super glue applied in a negligible quantity, ideally with the tip of a wire. Degrease the surfaces before gluing and before painting; on metal, paint holds only on a clean surface. Seat the belts in the cockpit before you close the fuselage; later you will not get into the space of the seat.
The set is for modelers who build the P-40N with an open cockpit and do not want to leave in it belts molded directly on the plastic seat. The package contains only the photo-etched belts; a kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
