Replacement exhausts for a model of the F4U-5 Corsair fighter in 1:48 scale. They replace the parts from a kit and are bonded with super glue.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Corsair is an American carrier-based fighter with a piston radial engine and a conspicuous cranked wing in the shape of an inverted gull. The F4U-5 version is one of the late, postwar configurations of the type. On the Corsair the exhausts of the radial engine come out along the sides of the forward fuselage in a continuous row and are clearly visible from the side, so on a finished model the eye finds them first.
Replacement exhaust pipes for an F4U-5 Corsair model in 1:48 scale. They replace the parts from the sprue with a single piece that is glued into the fuselage. The material is not polystyrene, so the part can take finer shaping of the edges than an injection mold allows.
Cut surplus material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest down so that the mating face stays flat. Try the fit dry, and adjust any overhang on the model rather than on the part. Bond it with super glue; ordinary plastic cement will not help here. Wash and degrease the part before painting. The exhausts are usually glued in only once the surrounding area is painted, which saves masking. They are painted in a dark metal tone complemented with rusty and brown shades, and a little sooty grime around the outlets suits them.
The set is intended for modelers who are finishing the detail of the engine section on a Corsair and want their exhausts crisper than in the base kit. The work is short, but it takes a steady hand when cutting and gluing a small part. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
