A set of photo-etched parts for a model of the American P-47D-20 Thunderbolt fighter in 1:48 scale. Intended for finishing off a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War, one of the heaviest and sturdiest machines in its class. Its armament consisted of eight 12.7 mm machine guns housed in the wings, which made it as effective against ground targets as it was in the air. The designation D-20 belongs to one of the production blocks within the D series. The blocks differed from one another in changes of equipment, which matters for a build: a part that matches one block need not fit another.
Photo-etched parts in thin sheet metal replace items that come out thicker in plastic than the real subject would warrant. With them the thickness of the material is the main thing: whatever is sheet or strap on the real machine looks convincing only when it is thin on the model too. The extent of the package, the position of the parts on the model and the kit the set is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and never break them out. Make the bend across the full length at once, best in a bending tool or by pressing against a straight edge. They are glued with super glue in a really small amount, which can be applied with a pin. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and use a primer for metal, otherwise you will rub the paint off during assembly. Work over a tray and with tweezers that have fine jaws.
The aircraft kit, paints, glue and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
