Eduard 1:48 P-47D Bubbletop SPACE is a set of 3D printed color decals for the cockpit of the fighter with a bubble canopy. It is not a kit but an accessory to a model in 1:48 scale.

A set of the SPACE line from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for the cockpit of the Republic P-47D Thunderbolt fighter in the bubbletop guise, that is with a bubble canopy. The SPACE line rests on color printed parts with relief, placed on a decal carrier and applied straight onto the parts of the kit; pre-painted steel belts usually back them up. The modeler thus gets an instrument panel and side consoles that are both colored and three-dimensional, with no painting. The version for the earlier razorback guise is a separate item.
The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. The later production batches received a lowered fuselage spine and a bubble canopy, which markedly improved the view to the rear; that form is designated bubbletop. The change also affected the space behind the pilot's seat, which is why there are separate cockpit accessories for it.
With 3D decals the result is decided by the order of the varnishes, not by the amount of paint. The procedure has three steps. First a gloss varnish on the painted part, so that the decal adheres with no air bubbles, which would otherwise show as a whitish veil. Then the decal is applied, left to dry properly and the glue residue carefully wiped away with a damp cloth. Finally comes a matte varnish, which evens the sheen of the whole cockpit out and, above all, hides the edge of the carrier film. The coat should be thin, because a heavy matte varnish fogs the lettering. The dials deserve an exception: once the matting is on, put a drop of clear gloss varnish into them, so that they look like glass.
This is an accessory to a kit, not a stand-alone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
