This is a resin detail set from Aires in 1:48 scale, not an airplane model. The set faithfully replaces the main landing gear wheel bays on a P-51D Mustang fighter kit. The castings capture the structure of the ribs, piping and lines that injection-molded plastic usually simplifies.
The North American P-51D Mustang was an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War. The D version was marked by a bubble canopy for a better view and by heavy machine gun armament in the wings. Thanks to its V12 engine and long range it escorted bomber formations over Europe.
First wash the mold release residue off the parts, separate the casting blocks carefully and join them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Wear respiratory protection while sanding. The bays are painted and picked out with a dark wash before the wing is closed.
This is an accessory for a kit, not an airplane model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and glue and paints are not included in the package.
