Dark straps are always the safest choice when you are not sure how to tune the inside of a car for color. They do not draw attention to themselves, they let the other items in the cockpit come into their own and they work equally well in a gray, a beige and a strongly colored interior. That is exactly why you will see them most often in converted road cars.
An arrangement with three anchor points leads the strap over the shoulder and across the lap. The double release then replaces the usual single turning buckle with a pair of release elements, which changes the shape of the central part. On a model with the doors open or the roof folded back it is the most exposed detail of the whole interior.
A finished seat is the foundation. Let the paint cure thoroughly and only then reach for your tweezers, because a strap cannot be seated cleanly into a soft finish.
Let the shoulder section pass over the edge of the seat back and lead it to the rear out of sight. Lay the lap section on the cushion so that it follows its curve lightly.
Close with matte varnish. With a dark version that matters more than anywhere else, because a glossy surface turns into a white band under a spotlight and all the fine detail of the stitching vanishes from it.
Consider whether to add a small suggestion of an anchor point in the floor as well. A drop of dark paint at the spot where the strap disappears is enough, and the eye gains an explanation of where it leads; without that the end of the belt looks cut off in the middle of an empty area.
Change the blade often. A blunt knife is more likely to crumple thin material than to cut through it.
