A resin dorsal gun turret with cast machine guns for the American Northrop P-61A Black Widow night fighter in 1:48 scale. It is an aftermarket detail part that will replace the simplified plastic turret from the base kit, not a standalone airplane model.
The Northrop P-61 Black Widow was an American twin-engine, twin-boom night fighter of the Second World War fitted with an onboard radar. The armament of the first production version, the P-61A, included a remotely controlled dorsal gun turret with four 12.7 mm machine guns; because of buffeting of the tail surfaces and a shortage of turrets, only some of the aircraft built carried it.
Resin parts call for more careful work than plastic: first wash them to remove mold release residue, separate them carefully from the casting block (the gate) and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Protect your airways while sanding and cutting small parts. Apply a primer before painting. Separate the machine gun barrels carefully, they are fragile; seat the turret on the fuselage spine only after matching the shape dry, and bring out the metal parts once painted.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
