A Model Maker decal set in 1:48 scale for the Sopwith Camel fighter biplane, with markings that point to the Polish service of this type. It is not a kit or detail parts but a stand-alone sheet applied to a finished, painted model. Check the scope of the sheet and the particular machines shown against the illustration on the packaging.
The Sopwith Camel was a single-seat fighter biplane with a rotary engine, characterized by the concentration of its masses in the forward fuselage. That is exactly what gave it its famous agility as well as its demanding flying qualities. The structure was wooden with fabric covering and metal panels over the forward section, which gives a model a quite different surface texture from later all-metal aircraft.
A model with the rib structure of the wing suggested calls for a slightly different method than a smooth area. The surface still has to be a gloss clear varnish - a matte surface makes a decal silver. Place the film, blot the surplus water away and only then let a softener work, drawing it down into the hollows between the ribs. With large roundels on the upper surface of the wing it helps to dampen the spot beneath them in advance and to press the film down gradually from the center toward the edges. Once dry, wash the model with lukewarm water so no residual adhesive is left on the surface, and seal the whole with a matte varnish, which matches the look of the period well.
The package holds decals. The model, the paints, the varnishes and the softener are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
