A sheet of pre-cut templates for spraying the British type A roundel in 1:48 scale. The package holds two national insignia masks and no glazing mask at all. The marking is sprayed directly in paint, so no glossy carrier film and no step at the edge appear on the model as they do with decals. The templates are not tied to one particular kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The type A marking is the oldest form of the British roundel: a deep blue outer circle, a white ring and a red center. The Royal Air Force adapted it from the French cockade by reversing the order of the colors, and British aircraft wore it from the First World War through the whole interwar period. In its full three colors it appeared on the lower surface of the wings and, in the prewar period, also on the sides of the fuselage, where it was later displaced by variants with a yellow outline or, conversely, by subdued shades. For the modeler it is a marking that suits machines of the 1930s, Gladiators, Furies and the early Hurricanes and Spitfires from the time when aircraft still wore bright colors.
Circular templates go wrong differently from canopy frames. Air is easily trapped around the center and the film domes up into a small pimple you will not notice with the naked eye until paint has passed over it and left a smeared rim. Always push the air out from the center to the edges, ideally with a cotton bud in a circular motion, and only then press the perimeter down. Where a prominent line of rivets or a panel joint lies under the marking, it helps to warm the template briefly with lukewarm air so that it presses into the relief.
