1:48 RAF Update 2015-2016

Xtradecal 1:48 decals - RAF markings update 2015-2016

An update decal sheet from the manufacturer Xtradecal in 1:48 scale focused on Royal Air Force markings from the 2015 to 2016 period. Sheets of this kind serve to supplement or replace the markings from the box where a kit captures an older state. The package contains the sheet and instructions, and the plastic model, the paints and the glue are not part of it.

The theme

Contemporary markings are largely low-visibility: national insignia in subdued shades, small numbers and an extensive set of technical lettering. With models of present-day equipment it is therefore chiefly the accuracy of placement and the legibility of the small items that decide whether it looks credible, because the large single-color areas offer the eye nothing else to rest on.

Application: setting and shifting a decal

As long as there is a continuous film of water under the decal, it can be moved. Make use of that: slide the decal off the backing roughly into place and fine-tune the position with the tip of a damp brush, never with a finger or with tweezers. Use the engraved lines of the model as a guide for alignment and check the position from several angles, because what looks symmetrical from above is often offset when seen from the side. Only once the position is right should you blot the water away with the corner of a paper towel and press the decal down with a damp sponge from the center toward the edges.

Who the sheet is for

• builders of contemporary British aviation subjects in 1:48
• modelers who need the current form of the markings
• those whose box is missing the technical lettering
• collectors of decal sheets

This is a standalone decal sheet, that is an accessory for a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
