A photo-etched metal fret in 1:48 scale for a model of the Republic P-47N Thunderbolt fighter. An accessory for a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-47N was the last production form of the American Thunderbolt fighter and came about for the fighting over the Pacific. Against the older versions it received a new wing of greater span with tanks inside, so the range grew enough for the machine to escort bombers on long routes over the sea. Even so the Thunderbolt was a large and heavy aircraft with a roomy cockpit, into which there is a good view on a model.
Photo-etched metal makes sense where the real part is as thin as sheet. Injection-molded plastic cannot get below a certain thickness, so an instrument panel, levers, placards, grilles or belt buckles look on a model like glued-on blocks. A metal fret, by contrast, really is thin and the pattern is etched into it crisply. Which parts the fret carries and which kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard support; twisting will bend the metal and it will never straighten again. Make the fold along the scored line in one movement, in a bending tool or over the edge of a steel rule. Cement for polystyrene has no effect on metal; super glue in a really small amount holds it. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and go over it with a primer coat, or the finish will not hold on the smooth surface. Cut the plastic part off the kit only once you have the metal replacement tried dry.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
