This item is not a model of an aircraft but a tiny detail accessory for a plastic kit of the Saab J 29F Tunnan in 1:48 scale. The barrels of the gun armament belong among the parts that injection-molded plastic never manages convincingly: they have a blunt, closed muzzle and often a mold parting line along their whole length as well. The Quickboost resin casting replaces them with parts that have the muzzle rendered and a symmetrical shape. From a modeling point of view it is a quick modification with a pronounced effect on the view from the front.
The Saab 29 Tunnan was a Swedish single-engine jet fighter with a swept wing and with an engine built under license in Sweden under the designation RM 2, derived from the British de Havilland Ghost. The gun armament of 20 mm caliber was housed in the lower forward part of the fuselage. The J 29F version was a late variant with an afterburner and a modified wing leading edge. The short fuselage, spread out in width, gave the type the nickname Tunnan, that is the barrel.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that paint holds on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and work over a tray - thin barrels break easily and get lost even more easily. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue, applied in a small drop. Cut the original plastic barrels off the model and redrill the openings with a micro drill as needed, so that the replacement sits on the axis. Leave the installation for the end of the build, after spraying and varnishing; the barrels are then finished with a brush in a dark metal shade and emphasized with a dark wash.
The set is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
