1:48 Sea Harrier FRS.1 - a resin cockpit is an accessory set from the Czech maker Aires for a kit of the carrier aircraft with vertical takeoff. It is not a model of an aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set replaces the cockpit from a kit with resin castings. On a model in 1:48 scale the cockpit is usually the most closely watched place, because the canopy tends to be open and you can see well inside. A casting mold manages what a split plastic one cannot: well drawn side panels, the shape of the tub, the equipment of the ejection seat and small details on the instrument panel. The extent of the package and the number of parts are given by the manufacturer on the packaging and in the instructions.
The Sea Harrier FRS.1 was the carrier version of the aircraft with vertical and short takeoff, intended for fighter, reconnaissance and attack tasks. Compared with the land-based versions it had a raised nose with the cockpit set higher, a radar in the nose and revised equipment for operations over the sea. The lift and propulsion system was formed by a single engine with four rotating nozzles, thanks to which the aircraft took off from a short deck and landed vertically. The type served with the British Fleet Air Arm and took off from ships fitted with a ski-jump ramp.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the surfaces wet, with respiratory protection. Keep trying the cockpit tub dry in the fuselage halves - with cast sets it is normal for material to have to be taken off the inner walls of the fuselage or off the walls of the tub, otherwise the fuselage half will not close. They are attached with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy, not with cement for plastic. It pays to paint at the stage when the tub is still out of the fuselage: primer, the opaque shade, a thin wash in the recesses and a dry brush on the edges. Bring the instrument panel and the side consoles to life by spotting gloss clear onto the dials. The seat deserves separate work - harness, handles and colored labels. Before closing the fuselage up, check that the canopy beds down in the open position.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
