A set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Seversky P-35 in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts, the shade of the frames is sprayed over them, and once they are peeled off the edge is left crisp. On the P-35 that is practical above all because of the long glazed spine behind the cockpit, whose frames are slow to mask with tape by hand. Eduard carries this type of set under the bare name of the subject, which is an established convention in its coded ranges; these are masks, not a kit. The set is cut for a particular kit, so check before buying that it matches the model you are building.
The Seversky P-35 was an American single-engine fighter of the second half of the 1930s and one of the first machines of the US Army Air Corps to combine all-metal construction, retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. It was powered by a radial engine and in its day was among the modern designs, but by the start of the 1940s it no longer had the performance. It was also built in export versions. The design line that the P-35 began led through further types from the same manufacturer to the later Thunderbolt, so the model is also interesting as the start of a well-documented line of development.
Wash the clear parts and let them dry, so that the mask adheres over the whole area. Lift the individual masks off with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay them down and press them with a soft stick around the perimeter; it is precisely the pressure that decides how clean the edge is. First spray the shade that is to be visible on the frames from the inside, and only then the exterior color. Apply the paint in thin coats and take the masks off before the finish has fully cured.
This is a masking set, not a model of an aircraft. The kit and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
