1:48 Spanish Typhoons stencils and insignias

Spanish Typhoons 1:48 - stenciling and national insignia

A Model Maker decal set in 1:48 scale which, according to the name, brings two things together: technical stenciling and national insignia. That is a practical combination for a modeler, because both are needed on a model at the same time and hunting them down across two sets is unnecessary. The set is an accessory for a finished, painted model. How many machines the sheet covers, and to what extent, does not follow from the name.

The real subject

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engined multirole combat aircraft in a delta layout with foreplanes. From a modeler's point of view its surface is fairly smooth and its finish monotonous, so it is exactly the small legends and insignia that carry most of the visual interest. Models of this type in 1:48 scale are among the larger pieces, where detail shows to good effect.

Application procedure

First spray a gloss clear varnish as the surface, and only then the decals. Plan the work out: the large insignia first, then the small stenciling, and let the surface dry between the individual sections. Look the low-contrast legends over against the light in advance, so you know exactly where the printing ends, and trim them closely. Use a softener mainly where a motif lies over an engraved line or a change of surface; on flat areas it is usually not needed. Once dry, wash the adhesive off the surface and overcoat it to suit the look you want. On modern combat aircraft the final surface tends to be rather matte to semi-gloss.

Who the set is for

• Builders of modern combat aircraft in 1:48
• Modelers whose kit lacks stenciling
• Anyone after national insignia outside the out-of-the-box options
• Those who finish a model down to the detail

The package holds decals. The model, the paints and the varnishes are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
