Quickboost 1:48 Spitfire Mk.I, machine gun barrels is a resin set of replacement barrels for the wing armament with drilled muzzles and no parting seams left by the mold.
Responsibility details are not available.
It is not an aircraft kit but an aftermarket detail set from the Quickboost accessory line of the Czech manufacturer Aires. The package contains resin replacements for the 7.7 mm wing machine gun barrels for a model of the Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48 scale. The castings replace the plastic parts from the kit and solve their two typical weaknesses.
Plastic barrels are molded in a two-part mold, so along their length they have a parting seam that cannot be sanded away without losing the circular section, and the muzzle tends to be blind. The resin barrels are cast in one piece, with no lengthwise seam, and have the muzzle opening indicated. On a finished model the difference is visible at once, because it is a detail in the line of sight of the wing leading edge.
Wash the castings first in lukewarm water with detergent because of the mold release agent. Cut them off the casting block with a fine saw and not with nippers, as thin resin cracks. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); cement for plastic does not work. Fit the barrels only once the painting and varnishing of the wing is finished, so that you do not have to mask them or risk snapping them off during handling. A metallic shade is managed by a dark steel paint with a light graphite sheen added.
The accessory is supplied as an unpainted resin casting. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
