Eduard 1:48 Spitfire Mk.I seatbelts STEEL are color photo-etched seat belts in steel which, thanks to the malleability of the material, hold a natural sag over the seat.

This is not a kit of an aircraft but a photo-etched detailing set for 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. The set deals with a single but very visible detail: the pilot's seat belts. The STEEL designation means that the parts are photo-etched not from brass but from steel. Steel does not spring back once bent and holds its shape, so a belt can be convincingly draped over the edge of the seat and left to hang freely.
The belts are printed in color including the detail of the webbing, the buckles and the hardware, so there is no laborious painting with a fine brush. The thickness of the photo-etched sheet matches the scale far better than a plastic part or a decal stuck on the seat. In a cockpit it is a detail even a layman notices, because it is the belts that give an empty seat the impression that someone has been sitting in it.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was a British fighter introduced in 1938 and the best known one from the Battle of Britain. In the narrow cockpit the pilot was secured by a system of straps with a central buckle whose particular form changed during the service of the type.
Separate the part with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface rather than by twisting it. Make the bends over the edge of a steel ruler or with tweezers over a round rod, so that a smooth curve forms instead of a sharp crease. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied on a toothpick in a really small amount, as any excess would dull the printing. The edges left after cutting can be touched in with a fine brush in the matching shade. Glue the belts on last, once the seat is finished and painted.
This is an addition for building a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
