Art Scale 1:48 SR-71 A Blackbird one-sided mask is a single-sided masking set for the cockpit glazing of the SR-71A reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale. An accessory for a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Art Scale masking set is intended for the large model of the SR-71A strategic reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut to the shape of the clear parts of the kit of this type, so it is enough to seat them in place and press them down. The model is sold separately; the set is an accessory for quick and precise masking.
The single-sided version: the masks cover the framing from the outer side of the glazing. That is a practical solution on this aircraft, because the model is finished in a very dark shade and what matters above all is a sharp outer frame edge. You can touch the inner frames in with a brush if you wish.
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird was a two-seat strategic reconnaissance aircraft intended for flight at great altitude and high speed. The structure made extensive use of titanium alloys because of aerodynamic heating of the airframe, and you can recognize the aircraft by its elongated fuselage with side chines and two engine nacelles with movable spikes at the inlets. The characteristic dark finish helped to dissipate heat.
Wash and degrease the glazing. Carry the masks with tweezers, seat them on the frame and press from the center outward so that no gap is left anywhere around the perimeter. On a large model it is better to work frame by frame and to keep checking the seating. Where necessary, trim the outline with a scalpel. Spray dark shades in several thin coats, otherwise a noticeable step forms at the edge. Lift the masks shortly after drying, with an angled pull across the edge.
It is an accessory, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
