Markings in 1:48 scale for the American biplane trainer that the US Army Air Forces listed as the PT-17 Kaydet and the Navy as the N2S. The sheet serves to finish a model that has been built; you will not find the aircraft or paints in the package. How many schemes it contains is given in the enclosed instructions.
The Stearman was the basic trainer through which tens of thousands of American pilots passed before going on to combat types. In design it is a classic biplane with fixed landing gear, open cockpits in tandem and a radial engine. It was deliberately built so that it would forgive a beginner's mistakes and at the same time teach him to fly properly. After the war hundreds of surplus machines passed into civilian hands and found a second life crop dusting fields and at air shows, where they still fly today in colorful finishes.
Trainer Stearmans are marked by rich colors and large numbers, so the markings make up a substantial part of the final impression. A biplane also means struts and rigging that are hard to maneuver between, so apply the large insignia on the wing before the final assembly of the upper wing, if the sequence of the build allows it.
