An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Great Wall Hobby brand, aimed at the single-seat version of the heavy Su-27 fighter (NATO reporting name Flanker). It is a modern tooling with a finely engraved surface; the box contains clear parts for the sizeable canopy and a decal sheet with several schemes. The model is large and once assembled it captures the massive outlines of the real subject impressively.
The Su-27 was a Soviet twin-engine air superiority fighter developed as a counterweight to Western machines of its generation. It stands out for its long range, its agility and its characteristic aerodynamic layout with a smooth transition of the fuselage into the wings. It was powered by a pair of AL-31F jet engines and carried a powerful radar as well as a numerous armament of guided missiles. It became the basis of a whole branching family of derived types.
Glue the parts with a liquid modeling cement for plastic; pay attention to the precise seating of the air intakes and the joints of the fuselage, which should be sanded carefully. Mask the sizeable glazing with templates and glue it on only after the frames have been painted. Apply a primer before painting. The typical Soviet gray-blue camouflage schemes come out well with an airbrush and fine shading of the panels; apply the decals on a gloss clear and fix them with a matte clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
