This resin set from the Quickboost brand of the Czech maker Aires brings precisely cast air (cooling) scoops for a model of the Soviet Sukhoi Su-9 interceptor (NATO reporting name Fishpot) in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model, but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers that replaces the coarser or blanked-off plastic parts with a crisp casting with open openings.
The Sukhoi Su-9 was a Soviet single-engine all-weather interceptor with a delta wing from the Cold War era. It served with the air defense forces and its main armament was air-to-air guided missiles; the radar was housed in the movable cone of the intake. The small air scoops on the fuselage carried cooling air away from the accessories.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that the mold release residue is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Glue the scoops with cyanoacrylate glue and watch their orientation. Try the fit dry before painting.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model, but an accessory to a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
