Masking set 1:48 Sukhoi Su-17 and Su-22 M3 or M4 Advanced is a collection of die-cut self-adhesive kabuki paper templates for masking the glazing and the wheels when painting the model of the Soviet variable-geometry fighter-bomber.

The set from New Ware contains machine-cut self-adhesive masks from kabuki paper for a model in 1:48 scale. The Advanced level is the middle one of the available ranges, that is a wider variant than the basic one. Besides the glazing of the cockpit, this level usually also deals with masking the wheels, which is one of the most tedious small jobs in painting.
Separating the tire from the hub by hand means winding a narrow strip of tape around the wheel and hoping that the circle comes out right. A die-cut circular mask shortens the whole procedure to a single application: the hub is covered, the tire is sprayed in a dark shade and after removal an exact circle is left. On the Su-17 and the Su-22 this matters all the more because the landing gear of this rugged fighter-bomber is clearly visible on the model and a botched edge on a wheel spoils the impression of an otherwise clean build.
First spray the wheels all over in the shade of the hub, let them dry thoroughly, and only then stick the circular mask on and spray the tire over it. The opposite order leads to show-through. On the glazing work from the large areas toward the small corners and press the edges down carefully. Since the name covers several versions, check the shape of the canopy on your model before sticking anything down, so that you reach for the right part of the sheet. Apply the paint in thin coats and remove the mask as soon as it is tacky.
This is an accessory for a model, not the model itself. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
