An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Tamiya. It is a combined set that brings two separate models together in one box: the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I fighter and the British 10HP light utility car, nicknamed Tilly. Included are the clear parts of the aircraft canopy, photo-etched details, a figure of a seated pilot and a figure of the driver of the vehicle, plus decals for several schemes.
The Spitfire Mk.I was one of the pillars of the Royal Air Force in the Battle of Britain in 1940, an elegant fighter with an elliptical wing and a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Beside it stands the British 10HP light utility car, a small military pickup derived from a civil passenger car, which during the war served a wide variety of liaison and supply tasks. The combination of an aircraft and a ground vehicle makes a rewarding subject for a small airfield diorama.
Glue the parts with a thin modeling cement for plastic. On the aircraft mask the glazing with templates and sand the fuselage joints; on the vehicle the bed can be built open or tarped over. Apply a primer before painting. British aircraft camouflage comes out well with an airbrush, while the vehicle will take ground shades and weathering with washes and pigments. The figures bring the resulting scene to life. Apply the decals over a gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
