An accessory from the Czech maker Eduard for 1:48 scale, not a kit. The set replaces the main landing gear wheels with resin castings in the three-spoke hub standard. It is cut for one particular kit, so the axle and the mounting match its landing gear legs.
Wheels are a rewarding accessory on an aircraft model, because everyone looks at them and yet a kit deals with them as two parts glued together. A resin casting is in one piece, so the seam in the middle of the tread falls away, which would otherwise have to be filled and sanded, and that just on a rounded surface where every scratch shows. The pattern of the hub is not a detail without meaning on this subject: Spitfires were built with several types of hub and a builder who wants a faithful machine chooses the standard according to the particular version and period. The three-spoke hub is one of those variants.
Separate the wheel from the casting block with a saw or a cutting disc, never with nippers, as resin is brittle and cracks. Sand the face after cutting with your airways protected, as resin dust must not be inhaled. Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm water with a little detergent to remove the mold release agent, otherwise the paint will not hold. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Never paint the tire a deep black; real rubber looks more like a very dark gray at scale, and a pure black shade flattens the model visually. The join between the hub and the tire calls for careful masking, or for brushwork after the whole wheel has been sprayed.
This is an accessory set, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
