It contains a miniature of the German antivehicle plate mine of type 35 in the version marked by the abbreviation st, that is with a steel casing, in 1:48 scale. In a scene it suits the terrain, a load on a vehicle and figures alike.

The real subject

The Tellermine 35 is one of the most widespread German plate mines of the Second World War. The abbreviation st in the name refers to the version with a steel, that is pressed sheet-metal, casing, which differs from the basic version in its surface and in the details around the rim. For the modeler that matters, because the surfaces of the two versions are painted differently: pressed sheet metal will take more sheen and sharper scuffs than the rougher surface of the older types. In a scene the mines appear most often in stacks, in transport boxes or laid out on the terrain.

Building and painting tips

After cutting the gate off, level the bottom face with abrasive paper on a flat board, otherwise the part will not seat in the scene. Then wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry thoroughly. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue and injection-molded plastic with cement for polystyrene. Paint over a thin base, add a dark wash into the rim gap and apply the scuffs with a sponge only around the circumference and on the top edge — the area in the middle stays clean, because nobody touched it. Finally dust the underside with a pigment in the color of the terrain.
