1:48 TF-104G Starfighter cockpit set from Aires is a resin cockpit set for the two-seat training version of the F-104 aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
It is not an airplane model but a complete resin replacement for the inside of the front of the fuselage. The TF-104G was the two-seat training version of the Starfighter with two positions one behind the other, so the set deals with twice the area of interior compared with a single-seat machine. The exact contents of the package are stated on the box of the set.
On a two-seat machine the cockpit is the most closely watched place on a model. An open canopy reveals both tubs, the side consoles and the instrument panels all at once, and the difference between injection-molded plastic and resin is greatest here of anywhere on the aircraft. A plastic tub tends to be smooth, the instruments are dealt with by a decal and the side consoles have only the outlines of the controls suggested. A resin casting allows a tub to be cast with thin walls and with a relief that carries light and shadow, so that after painting, a wash and a dry brush an impression of depth appears with no further work.
In the build, count on the whole tub fitting into the fuselage only once the plastic is sanded away from the inside: work in small steps and keep trying the fuselage halves dry until they go together without force. Separate the castings from the casting blocks with a fine-toothed saw, wash them in warm water with detergent and apply a primer before painting. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, sanded wet and with your airways protected. Paint and shade the whole interior before you close the fuselage up.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
