A photo-etched detail set in 1:48 scale for plastic models of the Soviet biplane Polikarpov U-2/Po-2. It is not a separate kit of the aircraft but a set of fine metal parts for making the interior as well as the exterior more accurate. Among the contents there tend to be the instrument panels of the pilot and the observer and an aid for shaping spoked wire wheels. The maker is the Ukrainian brand Metallic Details. The photo-etched fret is cut for the ICM kit.
The Polikarpov U-2 (renamed Po-2 from 1944) was a universal biplane used as a trainer, a liaison aircraft and a light night bomber. It became famous for undemanding operation and mass deployment; in the night bomber role it was flown by the famous women's squadrons as well.
The photo-etched parts replace flat plastic features with finer metal ones (belts, frames, instrument panels) and raise the fidelity of the open cockpits of the biplane. Separate the parts with a sharp knife, bend them over a ruler and glue them with cyanoacrylate; protect the color panels with a gloss varnish. The work calls for precision and patience.
This is an aftermarket accessory. The basic model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
