A resin US Navy tow bar in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Brengun is an accessory to a finished model and to an airfield scene, not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A tow bar is ground equipment with which an airplane is connected to a tug and moved across the apron or the deck of an aircraft carrier. In 1:48 scale it is a small but conspicuous accessory: it lies by the nose landing gear, or is attached straight to it, and it gives a scene the clear message that the machine is in the middle of being moved. The airplane model and the tug are not part of the package.
It stands out most in a diorama of an apron or a deck where ground crew are at work around the airplane. It also works well as a detail on its own beside a model on a base: a bar set down under the wing suggests the operational context without your having to build a whole scene. Combined with chocks and tie-down points, believable surroundings arise even on a small area.
Resin parts are cast in a mold with a release agent whose residue stops paint adhering. So first wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and let them dry. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, not by snapping them: resin is brittle and a thin part will crack. Wear a respirator when sanding and sand wet, as resin dust is not to be inhaled. It is bonded exclusively with super glue; ordinary cement for plastic will not join resin. Apply a primer before painting, and when weathering bear in mind that a tow bar was scuffed and dirty in service.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
