An American paratrooper in 1:48 scale, captured at a quiet moment while sharing a drink. It is not a combat pose but a moment between tasks, the kind seldom seen in dioramas even though scenes like this made up most of the time of every unit. The pose is therefore usable across a wide range of scenes, from a rest beside a vehicle through waiting at an airfield to a halt at the side of a road.
A scene in which all the figures are heading somewhere forward reads monotonously. One figure that turns toward another is enough, and the viewer starts looking for the relationship between the figures instead of just counting details. A resting pose also takes a position in the foreground well, where the figure is seen from close up, and it calls for no special terrain work around it.
Cut off the surplus material with a sharp blade a little away from the figure, sand the remainder gently and wash and degrease the surface before painting. Apply the paint in thin layers, settle the shadows with a dark wash and lighten the edges of the folds with a dry brush. In a quiet scene it pays off to spend time on the face and the hands, because it is they that carry the whole view. Try the stance dry before gluing, so that the feet come down over their whole surface onto the base.
For builders of dioramas and display scenes in 1:48 scale and for modelers who want to place people in a natural situation beside their vehicles. Paints, glue and brushes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
