This resin casting from Brengun represents the British Vickers K aircraft machine gun, also designated the Vickers GO after its gas operation. It is an accessory for aircraft models in 1:48 scale and for dioramas, not an airplane model. You will use it wherever the plastic weapon from a kit looks shapeless.
The Vickers K was a high-rate-of-fire machine gun fed from a pan magazine, used in British service above all on flexible mountings in open gun positions and in observers' stations. Its high rate of fire and ease of handling made it the typical armament of the defensive positions of biplanes and multi-purpose aircraft. It is characterized precisely by the large flat magazine above the weapon, which is the main identifying feature on a model.
The weapon is a small casting, so work with it over a surface from which the part can be found if it pings away. Wash it in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent and let it dry. Cut the casting block off with a modeling saw as close to the part as you can and finish the remainder with a file, so that no flat is left in a visible place. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue applied on the tip of a wire, as ordinary cement for plastic will not bond resin. The painting can be done with a brush over a sprayed primer. The barrel and the body of the weapon look best in a dark metal shade with a light graphite polish on the edges, with the wooden parts and the grips set apart in brown. Fit the weapon at the very end, after varnishing and after the glazing is in place.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
