An electronics set for the Westland Sea King in 1:48 scale from Black Dog aims at the instrument equipment hidden inside this British helicopter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Black Dog set aims at the instrument part of the British Sea King. While the engines and the rotor are visible on a model of their own accord, the electronic equipment stays hidden inside, and that is exactly what makes it tempting for a builder: showing it means offering the viewer something they will never see on an ordinarily built model.
The British Sea Kings built under license at Westland differed from the American original in powerplant and equipment and served in a number of roles until recent times. Alongside anti-submarine work with a dipping sonar and radar, they made their name above all in search and rescue, where they became an icon: practically everyone in Great Britain knows the yellow finish of the rescue machines. The transport versions then carried Marine Corps units and bore a nickname derived from the jungle, where they proved themselves.
The internal equipment is best painted away from the model, when you can reach it from every side. Alternating close shades and a light accent on the edges helps, because a single flat area would turn the detail into a shapeless block. Take the lighting of the display case into account when you decide which side of the fuselage to open.
The Sea King is sold separately; the set adds detail inside it.
