The canopy glazing 1:72 TBF/TBM Avenger from Rob Taurus for the American carrier torpedo bomber of the Second World War. Target kit: Hasegawa.
Responsibility details are not available.
A transparent vacuum-formed part for the Grumman TBF carrier torpedo bomber, or for its license-built TBM version. The long greenhouse canopy running from the pilot's position over the dorsal gun turret is so typical of this aircraft that its clarity decides the look of the whole model. The canopy is formed for the Hasegawa kit.
The Avenger was the largest single-engine carrier aircraft of its day. It made its combat debut in 1942 and, after an unsuccessful first action, became the most successful American torpedo bomber of the war: it carried a torpedo or bombs in an enclosed bomb bay, had a crew of three and a dorsal turret with a machine gun. It operated in the Pacific as well as in the Atlantic, where the Allies used it to hunt submarines from escort carriers. Given the large production run, it served with other countries in the postwar years and in the civil role of a firefighting aircraft.
Extensive glazing with many frames calls for careful masking. It works well to split the job into stages and to lay the tape only on the part of the area you are spraying at the time. Hold the part by the edges or in a cotton glove, as fingerprints are harder to remove from a formed surface than from an injection-molded one.
The item is a transparent part on its own. The torpedo bomber model and the paints are not included.
