A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard intended for detailing the cargo compartment of a model of the Westland Sea King helicopter in the HU.5 version in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory to a plastic model, not a model of the helicopter on its own, so the customer acquires the basic kit separately. Eduard has issued three variants of this set for the Sea King, one each for the HAS.1, HAS.5 and HU.5 versions, and they differ precisely in the fitting out of the cabin. Choose, then, according to the designation of the version you are building.
The Sea King HU.5 was the utility and rescue version of the Royal Navy, converted from anti-submarine machines. Against the anti-submarine equipment it had a cleared cabin adapted to carrying people and cargo, which can be told while building the model by a completely different view into the space behind the cockpit. Machines of this version served with the training and rescue squadrons of the Fleet Air Arm and are popular with modelers thanks to their striking high-visibility color schemes.
The parts are separated from the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, so that the sheet metal does not bend. Form the bends in a bender or between two razor blades and only then seat the part. Use cyanoacrylate glue in gel form, which leaves time for lining the part up, and degrease the surface of the metal in advance and spray a primer on. Finish the cabin and take the shine off it before you close the fuselage halves up. A fine wash and a dry brush will bring out the floor gratings and the rims of the panels, which are clearly to be seen through the open doors.
