About product

The real subject

The Taiho was a Japanese aircraft carrier built at a time when it was already clear that the main threat to carriers were the enemy's bombs and torpedoes. She was therefore given an armored flight deck, an enclosed bow and an island with a funnel angled away from the deck. She served only briefly: she got into the fighting in 1944 and in her first large action a torpedo hit damaged her, followed by an explosion of accumulated fuel vapor. She thus remained one of the most interesting Japanese designs that never got the chance to show what they could do.

What the set contains

According to the name it is the version with the whole hull, so the model comes about including the underwater part. Etched metal parts are included for details that cannot be produced in plastic. The name also gives a treatment of the flight deck designated as latex. The subject measured over two hundred and sixty meters, so the finished model comes out at roughly thirty-seven centimeters in length. The list of parts and the color forms are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

First join the halves of the hull and sand the seam in the side, and only then fit the flight deck, the island and the small equipment. Separate the etched parts with a sharp blade on a hard board, bend them over a straight edge and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary glue for polystyrene will not hold them. Wash and degrease the metal before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly. Spray the flight deck separately, while you still have free access to it.

The model has the underwater part of the hull as well; it does not end at the waterline. It is therefore displayed on a stand, and the shape of the bottom is visible on it.

They are separated with a sharp blade on a hard board, bent over a straight edge and glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Before painting it is good to wash and degrease them.
