A kit of the Japanese battleship Kii in 1:700 scale with etched parts. The ship remained a project that was never completed because of an international treaty.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Kii was to be the lead ship of a class of fast battleships of the Imperial Japanese Navy, designed at the beginning of the 1920s as part of a large program for building up the fleet. The project followed on from the previous Japanese battleships and allowed for ten guns of 41 centimeters caliber in five twin turrets and for a speed that until then had belonged rather to battlecruisers. The building, however, never took place: the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922 limited both the numbers and the size of large warships and the program was canceled. The Kii thus remained on paper, and the model is a reconstruction of the project, not of a ship that ever put to sea.
A model in 1:700 scale is the classic choice for large ships, because room can be made for it even in an ordinary display case. According to the name, etched parts are included in the package, and in this scale they find a use on elements that would come out unsuitably thick in plastic.
Separate the etched parts with a sharp blade on a hard board, bend them along a metal rule and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Wash and degrease the model before painting. In 1:700 scale work with a fine wash and only a suggested accenting of the edges, because strong contrast looks coarse at this size. Check the extent of the etched fret and the recommended procedure in the manufacturer's instructions.
For modelers who enjoy naval subjects and unfinished projects for large ships. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
