Diorama Texture No. 5 Reddish Gravel

This is a ready-made modeling texture paste from the Diorama Texture line by VMS. It is neither a kit nor an opaque paint but a material with which the relief of the ground is created on a base or on a diorama. The fifth shade of the line carries the designation Reddish Gravel. It suits anywhere the ground should be made of fine stone with a warm, reddish tone: field and forest roads, embankments, verges, the area around rails, broken road edges or heaps of dumped material under vehicles and figures.

How the paste is used

• Stir the contents thoroughly before use so that the grain is evenly dispersed throughout the paste.
• Apply it with a spatula, a palette knife or an older brush directly onto the base and model the shape of the terrain while the paste is still wet.
• Build a thicker layer up in several passes and let each layer dry properly, otherwise the surface may shrink and crack.
• Feather the transitions to the surrounding terrain so that no sharp edge appears between the paste and the base.
• Once dry, the surface can be toned with washes, filters and pigments and completed with static grass, small stones or scatter.
• Wash your tools and brushes immediately after work, while the paste has not yet dried.

Who it is for

For modelers who build dioramas, vignettes and bases for figures or vehicles and want the ground ready without mixing their own blend of sand, glue and paint. Anyone building a model railroad layout or the terrain sections of modules will appreciate it too. Alongside the reddish gravel, the Diorama Texture line also has brick rubble and further gravels and soils, so the shades can be combined in one scene.
