A printed base that stands the model on a real surface instead of a bare shelf. The motif is German herringbone paving, the pattern that was common on streets and in yards from the 1930s to the 1960s. The package holds one A4 sheet with a circular motif.
A circular area is rewarding under a single model: it has no corners to pull the eye away, and at the same time it gives the vehicle or the aircraft a piece of its surroundings. The A4 format measures 29.7x21 cm, which in 1:72 scale corresponds to roughly 21 x 15 meters of real street. The pattern is printed in color, so it can be used straight away, but it also takes repainting and dirtying depending on the scene you are building.
It is worth backing the sheet with a rigid board or card, otherwise it curls and the model will not stand level on it. Cut the circle out with a sharp knife along a ruler held close to the edge of the motif, then blacken the edge with a marker so that the white cut does not show. Apply the dirtying with dry pigments and a soft brush; water-thinned washes will curl the printed surface. A little dust and small rubble suit the edge, so that the paving does not end in a sharp cut into nothing.
