The Semovente da 75/34 self-propelled gun built on the M42 chassis. A longer gun made it the most effective Italian tank destroyer of its day. The 1:100 model comes out around five centimeters long.
Responsibility details are not available.
Italian self-propelled guns started out with a short howitzer of 75 mm caliber, which coped well with infantry but against armor was dependent on the shaped-charge projectile. The Semovente da 75/34 removed that weakness. The barrel was lengthened so much that it projected beyond the front of the hull, and the penetrating power took on an entirely different dimension. The low turretless silhouette was kept at the same time, which made the vehicle a hard target to hit in defense.
Production got going only in 1943 and the armistice caught it in full swing. Most of the finished vehicles therefore ended up with German units, which carried them in a register of their own and committed them in Italy and in the Balkans. It was precisely there that they became feared opponents of Allied armored vehicles, because from a well-chosen position they could land a hit before anyone discovered them.
The finished piece measures around fifty millimeters and its appearance is dominated by the projecting barrel. That is at the same time the most vulnerable place, so it pays to glue it on last and to carry the model by the chassis. The sloping surfaces of the fighting compartment are ideal for smooth transitions of camouflage, whether you choose the Italian sand finish or the later German gray.
