A three-dimensional kit of an aircraft repair workshop, laser-cut from MDF board. The set makes up the load-bearing skeleton of the scene, the floor, the walls and the structural elements, and 3D printed crane parts are added to it, specifically its drive and the cross beam. What comes out of it is a setting into which an aircraft under assembly or under repair in 1:72 scale can be placed.
Aircraft repair shops of the Second World War were halls with a high ceiling, where engines were changed and wing panels taken off under a traveling crane. The crane is precisely the detail that gives the scene meaning and scale at once: it reveals that the aircraft is not parked here but taken apart and being worked on.
The MDF parts come out of their frames by snapping the tabs, which are then best sanded down. They are glued with PVA wood glue, although the joints hold with super glue as well. The surface is absorbent, so a generous primer coat comes first before painting; without it the shades soak in and go dark. Printed sheets with wall and floor textures are not part of the set.
The aircraft, figures and tools are not supplied with the set, so count on them separately. Since the walls are separate parts, the hall can also be built as an open corner, which lets light inside and makes photography easier.
