1:48 Kokusai Ta-Go is a plastic kit of the Japanese wooden attack aircraft of 1945, from a new mold.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded kit from a new mold. According to the manufacturer's data it consists of forty-five gray plastic parts and one clear part, and it is completed by a decal sheet and instructions; a photo-etched fret is not included. The surface carries finely engraved panel lines and molded raised strips on the wing and on the horizontal tail surface. The build is conventional, with a fuselage split into halves and one-piece stabilizers.
Toward the end of the war Japan found itself in a situation where both aluminum and fuel were lacking, but a landing on the home islands was expected. The answer was the design of a simple single-seat machine built mostly of wood, the kind that even small joinery workshops without any aviation background could manage to produce. The only completed example flew in June 1945. The surrender came before series production got going, so the type remained a prototype and today it is one of the least known Japanese designs.
The small number of parts invites haste, but it is exactly with short-run kits that it pays to test the fit dry. Liquid cement for plastic is drawn into the seam by capillary action and the seam then only needs a light sanding. Given the wooden structure of the real aircraft, a flat finish without sharp highlights looks convincing, completed by a fine emphasis of the engraving with a dark shade. Decals settle better on an intermediate gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included.
