A kit of the Yamaha YZR500 racing motorcycle in 1:12 scale, in the color scheme carrying the Sonauto Yamaha markings of 1989.
Responsibility details are not available.
The YZR500 was the works racing motorcycle of the Japanese Yamaha company for the premier class of the road racing world championship. Machines of this class were pure racing specials with two-stroke engines that were never sold for ordinary road use, and they differed from production motorcycles in practically everything, from the frame through the wheels and brakes to the riding position. The designation in brackets is the works code of the particular evolution of the machine, of the kind manufacturers of racing specials kept for individual seasons.
This is a kit in 1:12 scale, the usual size for motorcycle models, in which the finished model is big enough for the details of the frame and the suspension to stand out. The color scheme carries the Sonauto Yamaha markings and refers to the 1989 season. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the number of parts and the contents of the package are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.
On a motorcycle everything is on show, so fit the frame and the suspension together dry first and check that the wheels stand parallel. Paint the fairing separately from the rest and put it on last, otherwise you will not get at the inner parts. Gloss surfaces want a smooth base, so smooth out the sanding marks before the primer. Cut the small parts off a little way from the part and sand the remainder down so that no white frayed mark is left.
The kit is for modelers who enjoy the racing machinery of the 1980s and for collectors who build up a row of premier-class machines side by side. In 1:12 scale the finished model looks good on a shelf on its own, without a base and without a scene. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
