1:72 Lockheed SR-71 Black Bird Painting mask (ITA)

The real subject

The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is an American two-seat reconnaissance aircraft that flew at great altitudes and at speeds several times the speed of sound. Because of the temperatures that arise on the surface in such flight, its structure was largely titanium and it got the dark finish it owes its nickname to. A slender fuselage with side chines blending into the wing and a pair of vertical tails made it one of the most striking aircraft of all.

What the set contains

The package holds masking parts for spraying a model in 1:72 scale. The mask is cut for one particular kit, to which the abbreviation at the end of the name refers, so it pays to compare it with the kit you have at home before buying. Which areas of the model the individual parts cover and in what order they are applied are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

Stick them onto a clean, dry and degreased surface and press the edges of the mask down carefully, so that no air is left under them. Apply the paint in several thin layers, because a heavy layer easily gets under the edge. With a dark all-over finish it pays to even the surface out with a primer first, otherwise differences in the base show. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set, pulling at an angle across the edge.

Who it is for

The set suits modelers who want cleanly bounded areas and do not feel like cutting tape into the curves this aircraft has plenty of all over its fuselage. The time saved comes in handy for the rest of the build. The contents of the package are the masking set only; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
